| DON'T GET RIPPED OFF! HORROR STORIES (Edited for length and grammar) |
2 different buyers tried to buy a TE1501D from nationalaudiocenter. In one case, as soon as it was "bought" nationalaudiocenter refunded the money and said they didn't have the product. In the other, nationalaudiocenter made the buyer wait over 3 weeks, then refunded the money.
Indoaudio - 1 buyer tried to puchase a TE5601 from Indoaudio. Indo never had the product. Customer paid for the product through "buy it now" on ebay. A tracking number was sent, but no product was ever shipped. After 5 weeks and about 20 emails requesting a refund or the product, the buyer finally got their money back.
I have fallen for a scam twice now and I refuse to let it happen again. First scam I fell for was at acaraudio.com for a subwoofer that never was delivered and I was never refunded. Not only that but acaraudio.com will not contact me back after contacting them many times. The second time I was scammed was on Ebay. After purchasing a $1500 audio package, I found out that I would never get my item and never get a refund. Please take my advice and buy from a good distributor!

Thought I'd relay a horror story that a local customer is experiencing. He bought this equipment via the Internet. This is the way the box arrived at the customer's house. The dealer blames UPS, I'm sure UPS will blame the dealer. I don't think the customer will ever get his money back. We pointed out that MTX boxes support the magnet, and that these woofers are too heavy to ship without proper packaging. We are building him a box, and I expect selling him a woofer.

I picked up a pair of 8000 series 10” subs on eBay. I got a great deal on them and was excited to have an ALL MTX system. I ripped out all my old installation and made a new box just for these new subs. They sounded like crap and had very little punch...I gave the 10’s to a friend of mine and he popped them within a week. I can only assume that these had been thrashed before I got them and this is why they didn't live up to the MTX reputation. I have owned 15 different MTX amps and currently use 5 of them. I love the Mitek company. They have taken care of me several times...Most of my stuff I get straight from the factory, or have them work on it.

I got the run around for over a month, fell for Scam #2 on the list of "Here's how they do it!" I filed a complaint with the Los Angeles Better Business Bureau and yes, they did respond, but in vague empty promises. Thank goodness for credit card companies, they were able to reverse the charge and get my money back. Word to the wise, don't order anything from acaraudio.com!

Hi, my name is Jonathan. I work at an Elite MTX Dealer, Mobile Music in Port Angeles, Washington. Just the other day I had a customer who bought four Thunder5500 series 12" subs (off of eBay) and two were blown.... He paid just $300 for all four subs. Good deal, right? Wrong!!!!!!!!!!! When I told him that the warranty wasn't offered due to the eBay scams, he flipped out. Just to clarify, if you want a legit MTX product, go to an Authorized Dealer.

I ordered an MTX Thunder342 from Techronics.com and after a week, my order was still being processed. I called them but would only get their answering machine. I then sent an email asking them for status and also asked if they where an authorized MTX dealer. Well, I guess that upset them-- they cancelled my order without any explanation. They are a pretty shady company.

We purchased an amplifier from Indoaudio on eBay. They stated it had a full warranty. In a few short months the amp wasn't working. When we contacted the company for repair we were asked for the serial number. We looked, but the serial number had been removed from every place it was supposed to be.
Indoaudio (an eBay seller) responded to my email by stating they would get back to me. After several more emails to them, they have never responded.
We spent several hundred dollars on a product we believed was under warranty. Now, we have nothing and no one to turn to. This is so wrong. The company that made the amplifier won't help us, the people that sold it were obviously doing something illegal and we are the ones that are hurt by it all.
What can we do besides chalk it up to a learning experience? We did not know that we were buying a product that was being sold "illegally."

Wow, I never thought I would be telling this story directly to MTX. I am probably one of the most dedicated MTX users in my area. However, I love to bargain shop. Who doesn't like to save money, right? Well, three months ago I visited eBay.com to see what deals they had on the MTX subs that I was looking for (8500 series). I found several users that were selling the subs and, well, I gave it a whirl. I paid $233.00 per sub. When I received the product, I hooked it up to my current system and it wasn't what I expected. Both speakers were blown and when I tried to contact eBay about the problem, it turned out that they don’t cover blown speakers. (The seller) claimed that the product was "new in box." I was an installer for six years and I knew what I was doing, but it didn't matter to them. So, I got stuck with two blown speakers for about $600 dollars. Now that’s a deal... NOT! Thanks for letting me vent and thanks for being a great company. I still love MTX and will always be faithful to your products. I just won’t buy them on eBay.

Before I saw that other horror story I was trying to find the JackHammer and I went to LIGHTAV.com. The price said $5000. When I called I asked "Do you have any in stock and how much do they cost?" The guy said "Uh it will probably be around $2000 and it wont be available to consumers for about another month. If you don't already have an order placed then you should go ahead and place one because they are going to sell fast." Then I came here (mtx.com) and saw that the JackHammer is sold only through Authorized (Elite) retailers which LIGHTAV.com is not one of them. On the site there is a link you click on that says, "MTX Internet Warning" and talks about the importance of being an authorized retailer. HAHAHAHA - scams are so funny.

Subject: acaraudio selling...
I was stationed in the Middle East and I ordered one 15" dual 4ohm sub, and the MTX Thunder942 amp. These were supposed to be compatible -- so they said. I figured it out about a month later when my ship was out to sea and they told me I couldn't return them... I learned my lesson that day!

I guess I could say thanks but no thanks. Here is my problem, I am dying to get some bass in my SUV, and I just happened to fall for your Thunder7500 subwoofer. That damn thing is amazing! The thanks but no thanks part: you see, I was searching for like a week on the web to find that 7500 for cheap. So I find this one site with a sorta unbelievable price. You should have seen how happy I was, I could have actually afforded it! Well I went to your site and after searching around I found the scammers list of sites we shouldn't buy from and the site I found was on the top of your list. I felt like a total ass. So I haven't been able to afford your subs yet, but I plan to find a good one, you know authorized, warranted and all that. I like the legit stuff.

I was almost taken in by one of the companies on MTX’s list of unauthorized resellers.
A couple weeks ago (late May 2005) I noticed the JackHammer on the web site for LIGHTAV.com. I had been following the JackHammer as MTX’s newest product, and noticed that the price on the web site was indicated as $5,000. My understanding from the last time I called MTX is that MTX had not established a final price.
I called the number on the LIGHTAV web site, and the person who answered the phone told me that he could sell the JackHammer to me for $1,500. When I questioned him, he told me that $5,000 was the MSRP, but that he could sell it to me THAT DAY for $1,500. He said that the first shipment from MTX was already sold, but that I could give him my credit card for the $1,500 and as soon as he got them in, he would send me my JackHammer. When he referred to the shipment, I asked, “Oh, so this is not made in the United States?” He said, “They are made in China."
This sounded a lot different from the information I had learned at CES. I have some friends at MTX, so I called and spoke to Dan Roemer, Vice President of Acoustic Development for the company. He told me that the JackHammer is sold only through authorized retailers, and that LIGHTAV.com is not authorized. He also laughed when I asked about the $1,500 price that the contact quoted me. He said the $1,500 wouldn't even cover the cost of the motor structure and 900 ounce magnets AND assured me that the woofer is made in Mitek’s factory in Monroe, Wisconsin. In fact, MTX has installed special cranes to move the speaker around on the manufacturing line.
I am very glad I didn’t give my credit card to LIGHTAV.
